FoSTaC stands for Food Safety Training and Certification. It is the programme through which FSSAI trains food-business staff and certifies them as food-safety supervisors.
The three levels
Basic courses (about 4 hours) cover personal hygiene, cleaning, storage and the essentials of safe handling. Advanced courses (about 8-12 hours) are meant for supervisors of State- or Central-licensed businesses and go deeper into hazards, records and compliance. Special courses cover specific sectors such as dairy, meat, fish, bakery and oils.
Who needs it?
Anyone who handles food. Cooks, servers, delivery and cleaning staff take the Basic level, and supervisors and managers take the Advance level. Licensed businesses are expected to have trained, certified supervisors on site, and training the whole team keeps every shift covered. Check the current FSSAI notification for your licence type.
How do I get certified?
Book a batch with an FSSAI-empanelled training partner, attend the training, clear the assessment and receive your certificate through the FoSTaC portal.
