Every food business in India needs either an FSSAI registration or a licence. Small businesses below the turnover limit generally need only a basic registration, mid-size businesses need a State licence, and large or multi-state businesses need a Central licence.
How to decide
Look at your annual turnover, the type of activity (manufacturing, trading, catering) and whether you operate in more than one State. Some activities need a licence regardless of turnover.
